چکیده
The quantitative manipulation of intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca]i) is a valuable instrument in the modern cell biologists’ toolbox for unraveling the many cell processes controlled by calcium. I summarize here the major classes of photosensitive calcium chelators used to elevate or reduce [Ca]i, with an emphasis on their physicochemical properties and methods of calculating magnitudes and kinetics of eVects on [Ca]i of flashes and steady light, in order to encourage the choice of the best substance for particular applications. The selection and calibration of appropriate light sources, and procedures for introducing the chelators into cells, spatially restricting [Ca]i changes, and measuring the profiles of [Ca ]i changes imposed by photolysis, are also described. The final section describes a selection of biological applications.

متن کاملLocalized IP3-evoked Ca2+ release activates a K+ current in primary vagal sensory neurons.
Electrophysiological and microfluorimetric techniques were used to determine whether intracellular photorelease of caged IP(3), and the consequent release of Ca(2+), could trigger a Ca(2+)-activated K(+) current (I(IP3)). Photorelease of caged IP(3) evoked an I(IP3) that averaged 2.36 +/- 0.35 (SE) pA/pF in 24 of 28 rabbit primary vagal sensory neurons (nodose ganglion neurons, NGNs) voltage-cl...
متن کاملNew modalities for treatment of diabetic nephropathy: a mini review
Background and aims: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common cause of end-stage renal failure which could increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and morbidity and mortality in patients. The aim of this study was to investigate new modalities for treatment of diabetic nephropathy. Methods:This study was a mini-review research to investigate drugs that are used for DN treatment. Resul...
